As performance requirements for functional coatings continue to rise, materials that combine easy processing with strong protective properties are increasingly in demand. IOTA 9150 Organopolysilazane (OPSZ) is a single-component resin designed to deliver transparency, high hardness, and excellent adhesion under room-temperature curing conditions.
Organopolysilazanes are polymers characterized by a Si–N backbone structure. Unlike traditional polysiloxanes (Si–O–Si), these materials contain reactive Si–NH–Si bonds, which enable moisture-induced curing.
When exposed to air, IOTA 9150 undergoes:
Hydrolysis of Si–NH–Si bonds
Oxidation reactions
Chemical bonding with –OH groups on substrate surfaces
These reactions gradually form a three-dimensional crosslinked network, converting the liquid resin into a dense, transparent, and hard solid coating.
One of the key advantages of IOTA 9150 is its ability to cure at ambient conditions.
At 20–25°C:
Tack-free time: approx. 2 hours
Full cure: approx. 3 days
Hardness development:
4H after 1 day
6H after 3 days
Up to 8H with post-curing at 120°C for 2 hours
This flexibility allows both ambient application and enhanced hardness through thermal treatment.
Thanks to the reactivity of Si–NH–Si bonds with surface hydroxyl groups, IOTA 9150 forms strong chemical bonding with metals, glass, and inorganic substrates.
It provides:
Adhesion grade 0 (cross-cut test on metal)
Resistance to alcohols, ketones, and organic solvents
Oxidation and corrosion resistance
Non-flammability after curing
Visible light transmittance above 90%
With a water contact angle of approximately 105°, the cured coating also offers hydrophobic and easy-to-clean properties.
IOTA 9150 is a single-component system with over 99% solid content. It can be diluted with ethers or alkanes but must not be diluted with alcohols or water.
After application, tools should be cleaned immediately with acetone or solvent oil. Once fully cured, the coating becomes highly resistant and difficult to remove using conventional solvents.
