Organic Polysilazane IOTA 9283 is a liquid polysilazane incorporating Si–N bonding structures, functionalized primarily with methyl and fluorine-modified groups. It is specially designed for room temperature-cured hydrophobic coating systems, offering a unique combination of ease of application and high performance.
A key feature of IOTA 9283 is its Si–NH–Si bonding structure, which enables curing at ambient temperature through hydrolysis and oxidation reactions. These bonds also readily interact with surface hydroxyl groups (–OH) on various substrates, ensuring strong adhesion. The addition of an appropriate catalyst can further promote reactions between Si–H and Si–NH–Si groups, leading to a highly cross-linked three-dimensional network upon curing. This structure significantly enhances the mechanical properties of the coating.
Thanks to its fluorine-modified functional groups, IOTA 9283 delivers excellent hydrophobicity while maintaining a colorless, transparent appearance and high light transmittance of over 95%. Its low viscosity and strong adhesion make it suitable for application through multiple methods including smearing, dipping, spraying, and brushing. It adheres effectively to metals, alloys, glass, painted surfaces, and plastics such as PP, PC, PVC, and PMMA.

Chemical masking: Effective barrier against O₂, H₂O, and other gases
Linear shrinkage: <1%
Transmittance (visible light): >95%
Adhesion (cross-hatch, on metal): Grade 0
Shelf life: 12 months (unopened, original packaging)
Note:
The hydrophobic angle remains stable at approximately 115° and can be maintained at around 109° even after exposure to 350°C for 1 hour. Service temperature is coating-thickness dependent—thicker films offer better protection but may be prone to cracking at elevated temperatures.
Compatibility:
IOTA 9283 is miscible with most non-polar solvents including alkanes, ethers, ketones, and esters. It is not soluble in glycol ethers such as diethylene glycol dimethyl ether. It is also compatible with various resins including epoxy silicone and silicone resins, which can accelerate curing and improve final hardness.
Handling & Storage:
Store and handle in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated area away from heat and open flames. Use appropriate PPE (gloves, mask). Avoid contact with moisture, water, or humid air before curing. Reseal containers immediately after use under inert gas (N₂/Ar) atmosphere. Dispose of unused mixed material according to local regulations. Products past the shelf life may be used only after requalification testing.
