Product Overview:
IOTA 6289 is a low viscosity, polymethyl alkyl-functionalized silicone resin specifically formulated for cement-based applications. This colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid contains over 96% active content and features a viscosity range of 30-50 mm²/s. The product effectively disperses in aqueous slurries and reacts with cement hydrates during the curing process to provide excellent hydrophobic properties.
Key Advantages:
The resin significantly reduces capillary water absorption through the formation of a permanent hydrophobic barrier within the cement matrix. It effectively minimizes efflorescence and weathering-related damage by preventing water intrusion and soluble salt migration. The product offers environmental benefits through reduced VOC emissions during application and reaction. Additionally, it enhances the overall durability of treated materials by providing long-lasting protection against moisture damage.
Applications:
IOTA 6289 serves as an integral additive for cementitious mixtures including concrete, mortar, and grouts at recommended dosage rates of 0.1-0.5% by weight. It can also be used as a surface treatment agent when diluted to 5-10% concentration with alcohol solvents for application on stone, concrete, or masonry surfaces. The product finds particular utility in precast concrete elements, tile adhesives, repair mortars, and various construction materials requiring water repellency.
Usage Instructions:
For internal addition, incorporate 0.1-0.5% by weight of the resin into cementitious mixes during batching, ensuring thorough dispersion throughout the mixture. For surface treatment applications, dilute the product with suitable alcohol solvents to achieve 5-10% concentration and apply by spraying or brushing on clean, dry substrates. Allow treated surfaces to cure under ambient moist conditions for 24-48 hours to develop a durable waterproof film.
Storage and Handling:
Maintain the product in original sealed containers at temperatures below 32°C (90°F). The material has a shelf life of 18 months when stored properly in its unopened packaging.
