IOTA 3000 is a premium polyether-modified organic polysiloxane leveling agent engineered to enhance the performance and appearance of coatings and inks across a wide spectrum of formulations. Its primary function is the significant reduction of surface tension, dramatically improving substrate wetting. This fundamental action translates into multiple critical benefits for the final coating film.
By effectively lowering surface tension, IOTA 3000 promotes superior flow and leveling, eliminating defects like orange peel, craters, and Bernard cells (vortices). This results in a smoother, more uniform surface with enhanced gloss. Beyond aesthetics, it imparts increased surface slip, directly contributing to improved scratch and mar resistance. Furthermore, it provides valuable anti-blocking (anti-adhesion) properties, preventing coated surfaces from sticking together when stacked or rolled under pressure.
A key strength of IOTA 3000 is its exceptional versatility. It is specifically formulated for compatibility with solvent-based, solvent-free (100% solids), and water-based coating systems. This makes it a valuable single additive solution for formulators working across different technology platforms, including industrial coatings, architectural paints, wood finishes, and various ink applications (including water-based and gel inks).
Physically, IOTA 3000 is a clear, colorless to pale amber liquid. It possesses a specific gravity of 1.036 at 25°C and a viscosity ranging between 300 and 1200 centistokes at the same temperature. Its refractive index is 1.4492. A defining characteristic is its low surface tension of 22.7 mN/m at 25°C, which underpins its performance. It exhibits a cloud point of 38°C in a 0.1% solution and dissolves transparently in water at typical use concentrations. Crucially, it is supplied at 100% active content, ensuring no dilution of the coating system.
