Hydroxyl linear silicone oil (also known as hydroxyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane) is a kind of silicone material widely used in chemical, textile, electronic and other fields. Compared with other silicone oils, it has active hydroxyl groups (-OH) at both ends of its molecular chain, which makes it uniquely reactive and can combine with other compounds to form a more stable structure. Basic characteristics of hydroxyl linear silicone oil
Hydroxy linear silicone oil is usually a colorless or light yellow transparent liquid with different specifications from low viscosity to high viscosity. It has high chemical stability, high temperature resistance, oxidation resistance, and is not easy to volatilize, so it can still maintain stable performance under high temperature environment. In addition, its hydroxyl-terminated structure makes it easy to react with other functional groups, such as amino, epoxy, etc., thereby deriving more functional silicone oil products.
Main application areas
1. Anti-sticking and release industry
In the packaging and labeling industry, hydroxyl silicone oil is often used as a base glue for anti-sticking coating. For example, after the surface of materials such as label backing paper, asphalt packaging paper, and sealing tape is treated with hydroxy silicone oil, it can effectively prevent excessive adhesion of glue and ensure that the label or tape is easy to peel off. Its cured film has a good anti-sticking effect and will not affect the original performance of the paper.
2. Textile printing and dyeing
In the textile industry, low molecular weight hydroxy silicone oil is an important raw material for the production of amino silicone oil. Amino silicone oil can significantly improve the softness and smoothness of fabrics, reduce the friction coefficient between fibers, and improve the feel and washability of fabrics. Since the active hydroxyl groups at the ends of hydroxy silicone oil molecules can better combine with the carboxyl groups on the surface of the fabric, the modified amino silicone oil emulsion is more stable and has a better emulsification effect.
3. Power and electronics industry
Due to its excellent insulation properties, hydroxy silicone oil is widely used in the manufacture of insulating paints and insulators for power equipment. It not only improves the dielectric strength of the material, but also remains stable under high temperature conditions, and is suitable for the protection of key components such as transformers and cables.
4. Silicone rubber processing
In silicone rubber production, small molecule hydroxy silicone oil (25~30 cSt) is a highly efficient structure control agent. The traditional process uses diphenyl dihydroxy silane, but hydroxy silicone oil can simplify the processing process, eliminate the heat treatment step, and improve the transparency and processing efficiency of rubber products, and improve the production environment.
