Compared with other silicone oil products, carboxyl silicone oil has many significant advantages.
First, in terms of reactivity, carboxyl silicone oil has higher chemical activity due to its carboxyl group. This enables it to react chemically with many substances containing active hydrogen, such as amino resins, and can be used to prepare coatings with special properties, while ordinary silicone oils have weaker reactivity in this regard.
Secondly, carboxyl silicone oil performs well in terms of adhesion. It can adhere well to the surfaces of different materials. For example, on the surfaces of glass, metal and other materials, carboxyl silicone oil can adhere firmly and provide lasting protection for the materials. In contrast, some ordinary silicone oils may simply cover the surface of the material, with a weak bond and easy to fall off.
Furthermore, carboxyl silicone oil has unique advantages in hydrophilicity. The presence of carboxyl groups makes it hydrophilic to a certain extent and can improve the wettability of the material surface. For example, in fabric finishing, fabrics treated with carboxyl silicone oil not only have the softness brought by silicone oil, but can also absorb and release moisture to a certain extent, making them more comfortable to wear. Conventional silicone oils are usually hydrophobic, which limits their use in applications that require hydrophilicity.
Finally, in terms of modification ability, carboxyl silicone oil is a very ideal modifier. The carboxyl group can react with other compounds to introduce new functional groups, thus giving the material more diverse properties. If it reacts with some compounds with antibacterial properties, the material can have antibacterial function, which is difficult to achieve with many traditional silicone oils.
