Product Name and Structure
Dimethylcyclosiloxane mixture (DMC) is a mixture of various cyclic dimethylsiloxanes. It mainly contains a mixture of different ring structures such as D3 (hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane), D4, and D5. Its structural characteristics are that the silicon-oxygen bond forms a ring structure, and the methyl group connected to the silicon atom provides molecular stability and relatively low polarity.
Because it is a mixture, the ratio between different ring bodies will affect the overall physical and chemical properties of DMC. For example, a higher content of D4 may make DMC closer to the characteristics of D4 in some properties, and the combined effect of different ring bodies gives DMC unique comprehensive properties.


Intermediate
As an intermediate, DMC plays an important role in the silicone industry. It can be hydrolyzed, polymerized and other reactions to generate linear polysiloxanes, which can be further processed into silicone oil, silicone rubber and other products. During the synthesis process, the molecular weight, viscosity and other performance indicators of the product can be controlled by adjusting the reaction conditions and the raw material ratio. At the same time, DMC can also react with other organic or inorganic compounds to introduce special functional groups or improve the performance of materials, such as enhancing adhesion to the substrate.


Applications
In the textile printing and dyeing industry, DMC can be used for the finishing of textiles. It can give the fabric a soft and smooth feel and improve the wrinkle resistance and wear resistance of the fabric. And due to its good stability, the treated fabric can still maintain good performance after multiple washings. In the field of industrial lubrication, silicone oil made from DMC has good lubrication and antioxidant properties, and can be used in various mechanical equipment to reduce friction and wear between equipment parts and extend the service life of the equipment. In the adhesive industry, DMC can be used as a raw material to synthesize high-performance organic silicone adhesives with excellent bonding strength and weather resistance, which can be used for bonding of a variety of materials.
